In continuation to my previous post, I am listing possible scenarios where you should look at deploying converged communication:

• If you are already using VoIP or plan to use it
• Your company has global presence
• Your employees belong to the mobile/messenger generation
• You want to lower communication costs
• You are looking to improve business productivity
• Business gets done at home, at the road and on your cell phone

This is not the be all and end all of what is necessary for you to deploy converged communication, though these can be good pointers for you to start looking at it.

I spoke to one of my long standing customers for whom we have implemented converged communication solution. He had a story to share about one of their customer wins, which I am recounting here.

They were preparing a solution presentation for one of their customers. They, as usual, had unbelievable timelines by which they need to prepare the presentation. He got hold of his technology folks from whom he wanted inputs and statistics for this presentation. One of them was travelling in Europe, and when he rang up his desk, the call got routed to his soft phone and he could pull in one another guy from his Bangalore office on the extension and three of them could pull together all that were required for the presentation, in spite of their presence in different geographies.

They managed to win the account and their customer was completely impressed with their knowledge on all points of their requirements. This was possible due to converged communication infrastructure that the customer had; is carried over IP network delivered to recipients in real-time.

We believe that IP is the only way by which convergence in communication can be achieved. The real value of IP is not leveraged comprehensively and we are only scratching the surface at the moment. There is a lot more that can be done to realize the potential that this technology offers.

Converging voice and data communications creates significant functionality. Then the world opens up for all kinds of possibilities, such as multimedia and SIP based communications. Real-time communications beyond simple voice into video and collaboration certainly will enhance productivity of organizations.
